Teenage James Corden was Britain’s sweetheart even in 1995 and this throwback interview with Meat Loaf is proof. Posted by BBC in celebration for his 38th birthday yesterday, if you didn’t think you could love the Carpool Karaoke king more than you already do, you were wrong.
The Late Late Show host got his start working with BBC1’s Good Morning with Anne and Nick. Credited as “Young Good Morning Showbiz Reporter,” a baby-faced Corden promises to bring you “all the top gossip and an exclusive interview with Meat Loaf.”
“Do you like marmalade, by any chance?” Meat Loaf asks him, which Corden answers with a laugh, proving not much has changed in 21 years. Everything goes well for the young reporter until he asks Meat Loaf about promotional tours.
“Promotion tours, you want to do this?” the musician says before banging his head against the table.
Already showing his professionalism, Corden takes it all in stride and continues on with the interview as if nothing happened and casually sips his water—the ’90s version of sipping tea.
It’s no surprise the young Corden went on to have a fruitful career. Watch the full, wacky interview below and don’t miss The Late Late Show With James Corden every Monday to Friday at 12:30am ET on CTV. Check out with episodes online here.
