The Late Late Show’s James Corden has recently been announced as the first-time host of the 2017 Grammy Awards, which means he better get used to spending time around lots of A-list musicians. It doesn’t get much more A-list than the Material Girl. Bitch, she’s Madonna.
Madge is the latest guest to hop in Corden’s front seat for a new addition of the hit viral series Carpool Karaoke and, true to form, Madonna didn’t disappoint.
Showing Corden the mean streets of her hometown of New York, Madonna taught the Englishman how to give drivers that cut you off the ‘what’s what’ before turning Corden’s SUV into a club. Their paired vogued, twerked and did the splits (well, one of them did) while sitting in traffic.
Switching between old favourites and new hits, Madonna and Corden sang along to “Vogue,” “Bitch, I’m Madonna,” “Papa Don’t Preach,” “Express Yourself,” “Ray Of Light,” “Music,” and an impromptu performance of “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina” that brought Corden to tears.
Taking a break between songs, the two discussed Madonna’s self-described ‘square’ life off stage (“I’m Julie Andrews”), her former aspirations to be a nun (“I like their uniform, it’s kinda perverse”), her thoughts on James’ wardrobe (“it’s very Seattle in the 1990s”), and revealing publicly for the first time how far she went with Michael Jackson (“he was a willing accomplice”).
Madonna’s episode was shot three weeks ago, just a few days before Corden drove around LA with Bruno Mars in a Carpool Karaoke segment that has yet to be given an air date.
Don’t miss The Late Late Show With James Corden every Monday to Friday at 12:30am ET on CTV. Catch up with episodes online here.
