If you’re in need of a good cry, may we suggest Alec Benjamin’s “Let Me Down Slowly.” The beautifully sombre track just got a remix thanks to Alessia Cara, who is featured on the new version of Benjamin’s single. Oh heartbreak, sometimes you sound so pretty.

American singer-songwriter Alec Benjamin has been quietly making a name for himself both as a performer and a writer, with his second mixtape Narrated For You arriving in November 2018 and including “Let Me Down Slowly,” his breakthrough single. Benjamin teamed up with Alessia Cara for a new remix of the song, with Cara’s vocals creating a beautiful back and forth that adds depth and an added layer of vulnerability to the track, which Benjamin said was inspired by his first relationships.

Speaking to Billboard, Benjamin said “It’s just about feeling like you’re at somebody else’s mercy where you really still care about somebody but they kind of hold all the cards and it was kind of like a helpless feeling. So it’s about asking for somebody to be gracious if they’re gonna leave.”

The duo make for a perfect pair, with Cara known for her own incredible discography of songs that explore heartbreak and self-discovery in a way that is both poetic and relatable for listeners.

Benjamin performed the new single on The Late Late Show with James Corden this week, which marked his TV debut.

The 24-year-old singer got a thumbs-up review from the show’s host, so now it’s just a matter of time (and a few more singles and an album) before Benjamin makes his way to the front seat for his own Carpool Karaoke.

Corden and Cara aren’t the only superstars that are loving Benjamin’s music. Musician John Mayer has also been posting about the Phoenix native, even sharing Benjamin’s Spotify page with his Instagram followers.
