In a galaxy far, far away, also known as Dallas, one mom dared to go on a heroes journey and purchase a Chewbacca mask not for her children, but for herself. The results? The most-viewed Facebook Live video of all time. Take that, cooking demonstrations.
Last Thursday, Candace Payne returned a few items at the American department store Kohls and used her store credit to purchase a sweet Chewbacca mask. The mom of two uploaded a Facebook Live video showing off her new mask and displaying what can best be described as pure joy. In only a few hours, the video had amassed a million views, skyrocketing to over 20 million views by the next day.
Payne, who has been dubbed “Chewbacca Mom” by the media, appeared on The Late Late Show this week in a special Carpool Karaoke segment that included surprise guest and Star Wars director, J.J. Abrams.
Corden also arranged for Payne to receive a letter from Peter Mayhew, the actor who plays the loveable hairy Chewbacca. Mayhew invited Payne and her family to meet him at a Star Wars convention, where we can only assume there will be a lot of laughing coming through Chewbacca masks.
Don’t miss The Late Late Show With James Corden every Monday to Friday at 12:30am ET on CTV. Check out full episodes online here.
