One of the biggest viral segments of the past two years is becoming a standalone series—however, mostly without the personality who made it famous.
The tentpole segment that helped skyrocket The Late Late Show With James Corden to fame was his hilarious Carpool Karaoke—where artists hopped in his passenger seat and “helped” the comedian reach his destination, while singing along to their biggest hits on the car stereo.
James Corden has sold the golden concept to Apple Music, who will turn Carpool Karaoke into 16 half-hour episodes that will pair up celebrities of all sorts to drive around and jam out.
Corden will only be hosting one episode, alongside the Fresh Prince himself, Will Smith. Other guests will include John Legend with Alicia Keys, Seth MacFarlane and Ariana Grande, Billy Eichner and Metallica, and potentially the least musically inclined of all—former NFL player and talk show host Michael Strahan with NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon.
James Corden promises that the Carpool Karaoke segments will continue on his own talk show as well, so we have a lot of karaoke to look forward to this year. Until then, you can binge watch old Carpool videos—including some of our favourites like Adele, Michelle Obama, and the Broadway tribute.
