When Ed Sheeran announced his return to music on New Year’s day, we noticed one very famous fan was just as excited about the news as the rest of us. Not Taylor Swift, although she was totally excited as well.
Fellow Brit James Corden was one of the first Sheeran fans to grab his phone and share his excitement about Ed’s then-forthcoming return.
Well, @edsheeran has already made 2017 epic as far as I’m concerned. #friday

The two men have known each other for a long time, with Corden famously hosting the Brit Awards for a number of years—an award show that has been celebrating Sheeran since the release of his debut album + back in 2011.
Following Corden’s tweet, we got to thinking about the possibility of Sheeran being one of the first guests on Carpool Karaoke in 2017. Looks like our dreams are coming true.
During an interview with Capital FM, Sheeran was asked about the possibility of appearing on Carpool Karaoke. “I’ve been in touch with James Corden about this for three years because he wanted me to be the first one and I just wasn’t around,” Sheeran revealed. “I can confirm that at some point this year I will be doing it.”
The singer admitted that he wasn’t quite sure his appearance on Carpool Karaoke would include his own discography. “I know the whole thing is singing to you’re own tune, but I think I’d feel a bit awkward. I think I just want to put on some Biggie.”
Sheeran released the first two singles from his upcoming third studio album ÷ on Friday, including “Castle On The Hill” and “Shape Of You.”
As for Carpool Karaoke, Apple Music has announced they plan to launch 16 half-hours episodes of the skit sometime in 2017. The impressive announcement already includes Will Smith, Metallica, Ariana Grande, Blake Shelton, John Legend, and Alicia Keys, with different celebs ‘hosting’ or driving the car in Corden’s place. Seth McFarlane will ride with Grande, while Chelsea Handler will be paired with Shelton. Corden is only expected to appear in one episode with Will Smith.
